Blueprint Telephone -- a classic telephone handset in electric blue, set against a solid black deck. The receiver alone, softly shaded so it reads almost like a three-dimensional object, runs down the length of the board with a round speaker grille at each end: the communication technology that shaped the 20th century, reduced to the part everyone has held. The telephone as a subject in art goes from Dali's lobster phone (1936) through Warhol's phone paintings to contemporary nostalgia for rotary dials. Here the handset is isolated in a single saturated blue on black, with nothing else in the frame. Printed in gallery-quality UV ink on Grade-A Canadian maple.
