Caspar David Friedrich's Wanderer above the Sea of Fog Skateboard Wall Art - Premium Canadian Maple Deck
Caspar David Friedrich painted Wanderer above the Sea of Fog around 1818. A man in a dark frock coat stands on a rocky summit, his back to the viewer, gazing out over a vast landscape of fog and mountain peaks. Friedrich rarely painted faces — he placed viewers inside the picture by showing figures from behind, a technique called the Rückenfigur. The painting is a defining image of Romantic philosophy: the individual confronting the sublime, the infinite, the unknowable. It is at the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
